Is He enough for you?

5 skits learned
7 plane tickets bought
7 visas approved
12 days until departure
14 sermons written
14 testimonies thought about
49 days of adventure with Jesus!
10 team goals prayed about and made into existence.
66 books of the bible
72 hours
30 people's voices

Right now, as I type we are reading through the WHOLE bible as a school. We are currently in Numbers. We started on the 7th of November and are ending on 10 November! When we were praying as a staff team for this bible reading time we felt like God wanted to show up and do miracles. Last night was Community worship [which is an open worship night for everyone in the community] and one of the girls on staff, Becki, had a friend pray for her. [She has scoliosis] This girl prayed for Becki's scoliosis and when I felt her back a few minutes later, her spin was straighter! Because her spin has been twisted for so long Becki has two muscle lumps. Those are SMALLER but not gone yet! Becki is nervous to speak healing out but she is SO wanting to! If you think about it you could pray for her and the journey of healing that accompanies scoliosis! So that is the first miracle we've seen since we started reading the bible. [the second miracle is that I did some crafting! ;)]

OUTREACH UPDATE:

My team bought there tickets for India yesterday, praise the LORD! We don't have specific ministry in India, but everyone is SUPER excited. I personally have been CRAVING rice. I dream about eating it. Which is weird but God's grace in this season I suppose!

There really isn't much more to say! If you have questions please ask me, but if not I probably wont update until the new year because of lack of internet access!

The most important thing for yall to know is that I love the Lord. I am learning to accept his love. It's the most fantastic thing in the whole world. It sounds so cheesy, but I've realised that without letting him love me I just strive to love/serve others. When I let him love me, loving others comes SO MUCH MORE NATURALLY.

That is really all I have.

Thank you for reading, PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS/EMAIL ME! I LOVE EMAILS!

Have a blessed Christmas! Enjoy your family and God's love through the birth of His son!

Love yall,
Shannon

21 hours later....

We travelled from Chinchilla to Airlie beach yesterday. It's supposed to be around 14-16 hours but it took us 21 hours!!! We started at 2230 on Saturday night and arrived in Airlie around 1915 on Sunday!  I got about three hours of sporadic sleep!

Today we have the day off and some of the students are going on a rafting adventure to see the Great Barrier reef!

My co-leader is back in Australia!!!!!! We leave for India in four weeks. Two visas are completely processed. Slum-dog millionaire has been watched. Our bellies have been prepped for heaps of rice. Hearts have been pricked with His love for this place!!!

God is good.

smile cause it happened!

It's been quite a while I feel!
So I will start with an update on team India! 6 out of 7 members of team India have visas in process. It should take about 10 days for all of them to be back. God is starting to give us excitement and vision as a team!

We are about to leave on the Pass it On tour in Chinchilla! [this is one of my FAVOURITE places AND where God started to heal my back!] Please pray for our whole school but especially my team. My co-leader had to go back to the states for 1 week because of some "technical difficulties" so I will be leading our team solo. We will be doing school programs and work projects all week!

[I am not stressed at all but it's weird not having her around. I know God has a plan and wants to challenge and grow me in ways I couldn't be if I had her here for this week!]

After being in Chinchilla for a week we will drive 17+ hours to Airlie beach for a week of lectures on Missions. From Airlie we will migrate to Stradbroke Island to do lectures, from Stradbroke we will head back to Brisbane for two weeks then on to INDIA, SAIPAN, GUAM, PERU, JAPAN, INDO, MALAYSIA!

During the two weeks we are on base we will be joining with another Discipleship school that has the focus of Music, Art and Dance for lectures on worship and then we will go on a mini road trip to read the bible ALL THE WAY THROUGH IN ONE WEEKEND!!!!! We have about 76 people and we are going to a really hard place to read through it. As you can see with the all caps that I am HEAPS excited. The bible is my favourite book and has changed my life. Every time I get something new out of it! It really is living and active.

That pretty much sums up the next few weeks for me. I am, as I type this, sitting among a pile of clean laundry around what used to be my couch waiting to be placed in a suitcase.

Honestly I could go on and on about what God is teaching me and how good he is and how much life isn't about me, but I am heaps tired.

A few prayer requests are:
-Jennifer gets all logistical stuff worked out in America.
-We have favour with our visas.
-Jennifer and I get money for outreach so we can buy tickets. [ASAP]
-Our team continues to have a heart/vision for India.

Thank you so much for reading! I truly appreciate everyone that reads this. My heart is content and I enjoy see people's lives change because of the Lord. I do miss people and events back home and every once in a while my heart gets sad. But I know that life goes on and I know that I am supposed to be here. So again, thank you for putting up with my sporadic updates and random quirks.

I am truly blessed by my parents, siblings, my church: Image, friends, and family.

Cheers,
Shannon

**Urgent need.

We have 5 students and two leaders. All of our students have enough money for outreach. Currently neither my co-leader or I have money for the initial deposit to buy plane tickets. As we are travelling over christmas and new years the longer we wait the higher the prices. We have been emailing, writing support, prayer, fundraising the best that we can and we still have no money. I DID [thank the Lord] have enough for my Indian visa, but Jennifer cannot get hers until she is back in Australia. [and has enough money] So all of that being said our team cannot go on outreach without one of us. [preferably BOTH! (; ]  We are really stumped as to the next step. We both felt that he lead us to go and it looks "impossible" right now. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray/support/tell friends/shout from the roof tops for our financial needs!!!

If you are in America you can send support to my church. Or you can direct deposit it into the YWAM account hear with an online form. That I will attempt to attach and if not you can email me at: shannon@goywam.com

You had me at 'hello'.-Jesus

Team India:

To bring hope, purity, and strength through the journeys God has each of us on!

Us doing kids ministry in town.

Team India doing service projects around town.

Who is on our team:
We are 7 in total, it's a great number because we can get to know each persons strengths and give everyone an opportunity to step out into the role that God is calling us to.
The team is me,Shannon from Virginia 21 years old, my co-leader Jennifer from California also 21 years old, Mitch from Australia 19 years old, Ian from Switzerland 18 years old, Olivia from Alabama 19 years old, Christine from Massachusetts 18 years old and finally Haley from Michigan 17 years old. It's exciting that our team in from everywhere, it's a good oppurtunity to find out what unity means even though we are all very different. We all are so excited to go and know that God has great plans for each one of us.

Our Need:
My co-leader and me.

God has been such a blessing in this time. We have a team of 7, AND there are 5 of us that already have the finances to go to India. Praise Him! I am leading with another girl named Jennifer Pezzi who originally lived in California. Like I previously stated, she is also 21 years old. She has been living as a missionary for almost 2 years, and I have been living for almost 1 and a half years. We both have seen Him support us and learned to live on very little. We both have a strong passion to be here in this place and to keep living as missionaries. Unfortunately it’s just her and I that are still in need for  $2,800. [plus visa] God has placed India very strongly on both our hearts and we can’t wait to go and share the gospel and spread His love to people who have never been told they have value or worth before. We both know this is what He is calling us to and are fully trusting in God in this time to provide us with the finances to send us off to India to lead the team!
If you would like to give us money please email at:
Jenniferp@goywam.com
or
Shannon@goywam.com
We will give you more details on how to do that when you email.

What we will be doing:
We will be doing so many different types of ministries and have a strong passion to serve in whatever way that we can. Our main ministry in India we’ll be working in the city of Darjeeling. It’s a very central place in India and we are so excited to be fully immersed into the culture.

Mercy Ministry.

Mercy Ministry.
Poverty is a trap that people find very hard to break out of. The world's poorest families are the ones who have the worst health care, the lowest standards of education and the highest child mortality rates. They often earn meager wages and are easily exploited As a team we will be going into these places and doing what we can to love and support these families in the slums.

Village Ministry.

Village Ministry.
We will be traveling up into the mountains of Nepal, going to villages that have never seen white people before, possibly never heard the gospel or the name of Jesus. We will be hiking with heavy bags on our backs, ready to serve and love there. Share the gospel with them and share His community and everything that He has taught us.

Kids Ministry.

Kids Ministry.
We will be working with children, in the slums, villages and churches. The cast system there is really in graded into the culture so we are there to show these little kids their value and worth. To speak life over them and show them the creator of the universe loves them more than anything. We will be doing skits, programs, testimonies, songs and just playing with them.

Church Ministry.

Church Ministry.
We will be going into different churches to lead the services. We are there to exhort, encourage and release messages we feel God has put on our hearts for them. There is a lot of disunity amongst the churches in India, so we are happy to come in and bring support and unity amongst our team to them.

What God has said to me personally:
As Jennifer and I have been preparing God has been speaking to me about India, what MY purpose is there and how to love and encourage our team in that before we go. He has spoken the words redemption, hope, beauty and stitches [in a quilt]. And again, saying that as we say yes to personal healing, growth, and adventure with Him he will build strength out of that for our team and ministry.

Thank you for reading. Please email us if you would like to donate to Jennifer or I. [we cannot buy plane tickets until one of us has enough funds.]
but most importantly, please keep us in your prayers!!!!

I love you all thanks heaps!

carpe diem

Thursday 23 August raps up the third week of the Discipleship school. Today and tomorrow we have teaching on Intercession. Next week we have lectures on Evangelism. On the 2nd of September we leave for the first leg of the running tour. [for more information email me for the videos/with any questions!]

With lectures on intercession [which is prayer on behalf of another. Or standing in the gap] the scripture in Genesis 18 [about Sodom and Gomorrah] was really interesting because I knew intercession is something God wants us to do, but he first introduced it in the context of fighting for a Nation! He wants us to fight for Nations through prayer.

The lady who was teaching us, Heather, shared about a circumstance in 1994 [I believe] about the inflation rate in Brazil, and after thousands of believers prayed the inflation rate went from 45% to 5.5%. How AMAZING IS THAT? As far as I know it has continued to stay low.

God is teaching me how to trust him more intimately. He is also telling me to choose and walk out in what he has ALREADY CONQUERED for me. For the first time, I feel like I'm listening. The past does not define but it does shape me. It's a hard thing to choose to be loved my God EVERYDAY for me. I have known for a long time that I  love Him but it's taken me until this past week to ACTUALLY LET HIM love ME!

We had one student make the choice to leave our centre in Brisbane to do a DTS elsewhere. It was rough to have him leave so early on and it stirred people up, but God's plan is good in this circumstance and I fully believe he will use this student leaving to bring things up in peoples hearts!

Just a day ago we announced the outreach locations of the school, which are India, Japan, Malaysia/Indonesia, Peru, and Saipan/Guam. We do not have teams yet so not very many people know what staff are going where. The students have until our Friday to tell us where they feel like they should go. [you can pray they have confidence in hearing God's voice!] Hopefully next post I can tell you what the teams will look like a bit more and what ministry we will be doing while overseas!

A few more prayer things are:
Love in our staff team [how to love each other and our students]
Breakthrough in the school [confidence and faith to know our "crap" isn't worth holding on to]
Outreach locations/ministry [countries and hosts will be rested and blessed when we come. And we will know God's heart for that Nation and how to serve them.]

On a different note; it's starting to warm up! Soon it will be full fledged SUMMER! Heaps of sunscreen any moment outside. (:

Well, that's really all I have for today. Thanks heaps for reading. Thank you for each of your support of me. I couldn't be here serving and learning more about God without the support of my family, friends, and home church.

Thank you, děkujidiolch i chiशुक्रिया, ¡gracias

Follow the leader.

Okay, peeps! I am going to update you on the status of our new school!

It starts 1 August and it's been a whirlwind since then! We had what is called a "welcome dinner" on Wednesday night, the orientation on Thursday and Friday. We then packed up as a school of 31 to travel 2 hours west to a country town called Toowoomba!

We spent Friday, Saturday, and half Sunday at camp Toowoomba. This facility we stayed at reminds me of the camp property on the film "the parent trap". I've ALWAYS wanted to stay at a camp like that so it's pretty cool.

While we were in Toowoomba we shared testimonies (personal stories), play an intense game of capture the flag, and ate. Sharing all 31 stories took about 11 hours? It was crazy! I personally LOVE hearing about where people come from and where God has brought them.

This past Monday we started lectures on the Character and Nature of God. It's only the second day, but it's been pretty good!

As a staff team we feel like God wants to redeem families and have us be unified. You guys can pray for that. The first few weeks can be hard for some students. They get really home sick and just feel way out of their comfort zones. But it's TOTALLY worth it and they just need to stick it out and find out themselves! (:

Right now, I am personal feeling content. God is good. I realise everyday my deeper and deeper need for him. (I think I shared this previously, but it gets more and more real!) I have been teaching a few times recently. I taught on a camp (previously mentioned), and I also shared in Orientation about the wildlife of Australia, and yesterday I shared on Quiet times.

Yesterday when I was preparing for the Quiet times teaching my heart was feeling overwhelmed. It wasn't that I was nervous about the teaching but more that God is doing stuff with the students and my own heart and my heart was just full. God has been teaching me how to be more vulnerable.

The other day (in camp toowoomba) after I shared my story I felt so vulnerable. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but then it dawned on me. God has healed my heart, vulnerability and openness is what he wants so why wouldn't I feel like that! (: It's getting easy for me to share my heart and emotions which is scary but also a testimony to God's grace!!!

The up coming weeks involve more lectures, small groups, and team bonding! We are also reading through the new testament on the first 4 months of the school. THEN we will be going away to a town called Redcliffe and we will be reading through the WHOLE BIBLE in 48 hours!!!!!!!! Pray for us then!

Please keep us in your prayers! We need them. (:

Also pray for our school leader, Jennifer. Because she's our leader and she carries a lot. (:

Well, if anyone wants to write me, remember that I LOVE LETTERS! (: And emails!!!

I love you all, thank you for your support. Ask me questions if you want to know anything!

Peace and chicken grease.

distaste for blogs.

Blogging. It has an tendency to be consistent for a few weeks then awkwardly long silence then a weird catch up then a few posts back to back then....nothing. I am attempting NOT to do that to you guys, but failing miserably.

This is hopefully going to be an overview of what's been going on.

Starting on 25 June I helped staffed before school staff training. It's called training and assessment phase 1. The three new staff working with Beach to Bush this August were students in this course. This course is highly sought after in Australia to ensure staff are trained properly in how to assess and document people's growth. Because Youth With a Mission Australia runs accredited Discipleship Training Schools we have to keep up to date with how we train our students.

This two week course is JAM packed full of 8a-4p lectures with 11 in class assignments. We go over learning styles, how to facilitate a class room, how to have a one on one (mentoring conversations), how to assess, why we assess, how to create an assessment, how to validate and collect evidence for assessment and much, much more! I personally LOVE this course. I thought it was fun when I did it last June. Since then I have taken the two week course for the second "phase" of the certificate. Then I staffed this school. I finally get it! The more you listen,do, and work with the curriculum the easier it is to see how it's a blessing and not a curse! (they say that Training and Assessment is like a different language!)

Last Monday all 10 staff started what we call Basic Leadership Lectures. We do this for three weeks, one week school prep, then the school starts. So far in lectures we have had teaching on criteria of a leader, worldview discussion on asylum seekers, mentoring, one on one's and small groups. The upcoming lecture topics are: architects of the Gospel, communication, Authority, boundaries & time management, servant leadership, and first impressions.

We also have the opportunity to run a small group for our fellow classmates to practice facilitating small groups for the students on the school. I lead a small group last Thursday with a girl named Becki. (small groups are a time for processing, bonding, discussion, ministry, and encouragement.) We receive lecture topics that we have on DTS to "process" as a class, we are broken up into guys and girls. We lead 6 fellow staff in this small group processing God's character! (this is a huge topic...FYI (:) While Becki and I were praying about what to do we really felt that God wanted to press Identity. He was saying to us that without understanding of who He is how are we expecting to know who we are. Look at the creator to see the created.

For the small group activity we traced Becki on a piece of big paper and taped this paper girl to the mirror. (we have a dance studio on the centre) We had the girls write this they think/believe that don't line up with God's character. (example: I'm ugly, God doesn't care, I'm fat, I'm not worthy for relationship with God.) We then had them sit in front of the huge dance mirror and ask God to speak to each person about those areas. We wanted them to look at themselves from God's perspective and ask for bible verses to in plant truth into their lives. After a few minutes we went around the circle and shared the lies and then the truth he spoke to us. As a symbol of sealing his truth we put marker on our fingers and then pressed them on our forearms, making finger prints. "Sealing his identity" was the point! Then we paired off and prayed for one another.

It was really cool to see how God used a "pretend" situation to ministry to us. Even though all of the girls in that small group are staff and have been in relationship with Jesus for quite some time, it was humbling to realise we still believe lies. We need Jesus more and more, not less and less the longer we are in relationship.

A few weeks ago we ran a weekend camp for high school students. We had 7 girls, 1 boy, and 2 sets of parents attend. They were all christian kids and were actively seeking after God's heart. The lecture topics that our contact, Jim, wanted us to touch on were; Mission's, hearing God's voice, and the Father heart of God. There were 8 staff working to put this camp together and when we prayed about it we felt that we should talk on; Character and Nature, Father heart, importance of quiet times with Jesus, Mission's, and hearing God's voice.

I taught for an hour on God's character the first night, after a time of worship. I shared about the journey God has had me on with trusting him. With him showing time and time again that he is my refuge, stronghold, peace, and shepherd. I shared bits of my story of when I felt God as a refuge and peace. And then pieced together pictures and stories to go along with Psalm 23 to talk about God being my shepherd.

I was extremely worried before I taught about stuttering, not communicating accurate information, being bad at transitioning from one point to the next, and concluding the whole teaching. Oh, and not having enough content to fill up an hour! All for nothing though....Jesus spoke through me and I had a whole page of notes I had to skip because I was out of time!!! Multiple people came up and told me that they were impacted by the stories I shared and how God has shown up in my life. It was super encouraging to hear that God can use me. He will use me and he has great plans. All I have to do is trust him and be obedient!!!

The whole weekend was awesome. We had the opportunity to go to an outlet mall because all the youth were from country towns and they wanted to enjoy "city life"! We hung out and shopped with them and they blessed us with afternoon tea!!! (a mid afternoon snack) At the end of the weekend all of us staff were invited to the youth's church 28-29 July for their confirmation. They have been emailing and face booking us about how impacting the weekend was.

I am for sure not explaining the extend of God's workings in both the staff and youth over this weekend. Even thinking about the kids, the worship, or the lectures makes my heart full of his Joy! He's got a hold of those 8 youth's hearts. Take joy in that!!!!! It's SO encouraging to see 14,16,17's LOVE Jesus. You were a part of this! By supporting me and what God is doing here in Australia you've helped 8 youth come to know him more!!!!! Thank you!!!

Upcoming weeks...the DTS starts on 1 August. We have 21 students and 10 staff. I believe I briefly mentioned that we have 6 siblings on this school. We feel that God wants to redeem families.

Personally, I am excited to be in lectures, to meet and know new people, and apply the things I learned from last school and these past 6 months of logistical phase. Some of which are: God is ALL about relationship. Loving unconditionally gives people the right to hurt you, which sucks but that's what Jesus does for us. Trusting God is everyday things, big and small. ANNNNND the most exciting thing (or at least from my perspective..) is learning/teaching/guiding the girls in my small group and outreach team towards holiness and excellence in womanhood. (bare with me!!)

As of late, God has been teaching me about holiness. In 1 Peter 1:14-16"As obedient children do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written 'you shall be holy, for I am holy'" Why would he say that if it wasn't achievable!?!? We can be holy!!! Which is "set apart, total devotion to God". That has been hitting me HARD...am I living a Holy life? Am I being holy, excellent, and above reproach in all my conduct? Am I being an example to the believers in my speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity? (1 tim. 4:12)

The weight of holiness in my speech and actions is something I've struggled with for a long time. I've often thought that I have said too many gross or mean things, or acted poorly towards people too many times, or disobeyed my parents too many times for the 1 Timothy verse to apply to me. How could I, Shannon Baxter, be an example? The answer is Jesus Christ.  I, Shannon Baxter, am a redeemed child of the majesty on high and have the guidance to become an example to many. Only by the grace of Jesus. I'll take it!!!

Because this is the process that Jesus has be on, I want to share and challenge the girl students coming on the school to recognise the same. I want to be holy because Jesus is Holy and I want these precious girls to be holy because Jesus is Holy!

Another aspect of that is encouraging men to be men because I am being a godly woman. Often women my age complain about the lack of gentlemen around town. Partly that is upbringing, hurt, personal choice, and lack of Jesus....another part is that (at least in my life..) we as women don't let them be men and take care of us. (I know that I am walking on thin ice here...so please don't get offended..I merely want to share my heart. Ask my questions if you disagree or think I'm way off base) When a guy offers to carry my books, let me go a head in the food line, or lift a heavy couch...I often refuse him. My immediate reaction is "heck, I can do this, my daddy raised me strong." But...I'm not the only on in the situation...how long is the guy going to push to help women if I shut him down? (not JUST me, but women in general) Maybe I'm way off but I've talked to a few guys around here and most said eventually they give up if girls refuse their help.

I feel like this has been a lot of information and no where NEAR the amount of stuff God has been teaching me, but for fear of your mind exploding I will close this note!

Please, please, please contact me with questions, concerns, comments, stories of your life, or just random chats. I miss you guys and I realise more and more each day how/why God has put you in my life. I need to update you more but know that I appreciate you reading this novel I have just typed out!!!

I love, value, and pray for you guys!!
